Hi! This is Mayzie!
Well, it's been a busy week since we got back from Wyoming.
Monday, I made a bunch of phone calls regarding the children's schooling. Ryan will be in Middle School and Tim will be in school full-time in something they call 'Reception'. I'm assuming that's some sort of pre-school, but we'll find out more when the term starts. I spoke to the Head Teacher at the school we think Ryan is going to attend - she was so full of energy and was wanting to do anything she could to help. I got a good feeling from her. She even offered to let us come in the day before school starts so Ryan could see the school. From everything I've heard and experienced in regards to British customer service, this attitude is very refreshing! In the end, however, I needed to call the Council regarding getting the kids enrolled since the application process happened some time ago. They're sending me some forms.
When I went into work on Tuesday, my manager started talking to me about a promotion possibility that would be coming up for me to take advantage of in Denver. I felt really bad standing there having her tell me about this when I knew all along that in a few weeks time I would be telling her that my last day would be June 15th. So, I told her then. She took it as expected - said she would be sad to see me go and that she'd miss me being around. The good part is, she offered to write a recommendation for me for when I'm looking for jobs in England.
Cliff didn't want to be the only one who couldn't talk freely about the move, so on Wednesday he told the people he drives to work with everyday. He's still going to wait until later to tell his employer, but at least now we can start getting the word out in case anyone we know wants to buy any of the copious amounts of stuff we need to sell - which, in case you didn't catch it, is EVERYTHING!
Thursday didn't bring any excitement for us - though, the day isn't over yet so I guess that could change. I don't think it's likely though.

Hi Guys
ReplyDeleteAssuming you are putting Ryan into Grenway (booo hiss)?
Reception is the first year of primary school. The first term they aften only do mornings and slowly work their way up to full days at school. They are also kept relatively separate from the rest of the school for a while as well. Sammy starts in reception in September as well.
Not sure how the entrance application will work as we had to apply for Sammy's schools by 31st January. Basically you get to choose your top three schools. The education authority then offers places based on geographical location and if the school is over subscribed or not. So if a school has had a good ofsted, then more people want their children to go to that school and you stand less chance of getting in if you are outside the school catchment area. Probably doesn't make that much difference in place like Royston as the schools are all of muchness.
Hope that helps!
Enjoying the blog by the way!

Thanks Tobes, most helpful. Actually leaning a little to Roman Way and Roysia. What with the new underpass it's about the same distance from mum and dads, and with mum working on that side may be an advantage too. As with everything else the first 6 months are gonna be a case of "figure-it out as we go."
ReplyDeleteI shall speak to the local town councillor (mum) and get an update on when the underpass will open. She was nosing around there the other day!
ReplyDeleteCheers
